Over the weekend I was enjoying Chinese take out and beautiful spring weather with my family on the back patio. When it was fortune cookie time, we cracked open our edible envelopes eager to see what was in the stars for us. (By the way, I think there is an art to eating a fortune cookie... I have yet to master that. Is it crack the cookie in half, eat half, then read the fortune, then finish the cookie? Regardless of the method I retrieved my words of wisdom successfully!)
Most of the time I read my fortune, share it with my family, then thrust it aside with the stack of paper plates and wrappers. This time it was different. I was quiet while I read the words on my little white slip because they spoke to me so loudly. It felt like I had received the right fortune at just the right time. It was a sign that the path I'm on is the right path indeed. Here's what my fortune read:
Stay close to your inner self.
You will benefit in many ways.
These words echoed others that have come before them, and I don't think it is a coincidence that they continue to speak to my soul. I gathered up a few more of those words here:
"Refuse to give up on what [you] are really drawn to in [your life]."
Shannon Ables (The Simply Luxurious Life)
"Find something you're passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it."
Julia Child
"Leap. Be brave. Respect your one and only life and live it in such a way that allows you to come alive and be yourself."
Shannon Ables (The Simply Luxurious Life)
"Imagine what could happen if we all had the heart to be who we truly are."
The Light of Paris by Eleanor Brown
"To be able to look beyond, we must first look within. We must become so well in tune with ourselves that we know when something is not present and needs to be, even if we cannot put our finger on it at the moment."
Shannon Ables (The Simple Sophisticate Ep. 135)
I hope some of these words speak to your soul as they have spoken to mine. While it feels like knowing your inner self should be second nature, I have found that giving myself deliberate time to listen and explore reveals more to me about my true self each and every day. I'm enjoying the journey. :)
